Le Chateau Sainte Roseline - vineyard and chapel, open 7 days with free tasting Crocodile farm - 350 crocodiles roaming free, open all year round. This is possibly a little too distant for most as it's on the way to Lyon. tourazur -Sightseeing tours of Monaco & the Riviera - pick up and drop off at your hotel, recommended tour - Oil Mill & wine tasting at St.Jeannet.
Eze
- lovely little medieval village on the riviera. Take
careful note. There is Eze-sur-Mer and Eze Village.
Eze-sur-Mer is easy to get to by train but if you want to go to the
village via the train you will have to walk all the way up a very
steep hill - think "vertical" and you get the idea. Even
downhill (my sister tried it!) it's a bit of a hike in any weather -
takes at least 1 hour on poorly made paths and you should have
appropriate sturdy footwear and clothing. Other than the great restaurants there is a high level garden available to see at a small cost. Full of tropical plants, it's great for those "vista" pictures when the air is clear. The view is called "le nid d'aigle" - or "Eagle's Nest"
There are two spectacular restaurants in Eze, le Chevre d'or and le Chateau Eza. Both are located near the top of the village with stunning views (as above to Beaulieiu sur Mer) across the Mediterranean, and on a good day they are unbeatable. Having eaten at Chateau Eza we can recommend this restaurant extremely highly, but be warned - you'd better have deep pockets!. Marineland - Antibes - Dolphins, Seals, Whales. Good fun close to Nice - worth a visit. Fragonard - Perfumes - various locations. Historical factory and main location is in Grasse and the Laboratory Factory in Eze (see above) Galimard - Perfumes - located in Grasse and Eze. Grottos of Saint Cezaire - caves with stalagtites and stalagmites - do you know which is up and which is down? Located 15mins north of Grasse, making it a bit of a trek from Nice. However, you could combine this with a trip to the perfume factories and make a day of it. Ephrussi de Rothschild - Villa & Gardens - located on Saint-Jean Cap Ferrat, between Villefranche & Beaulieu sur Mer, looks like a beautiful place to visit. The bus from the station takes you directly there - check the routes and timetables - Beaulieu itself, further along the route, is pleasant enough and if you want to, the walk back to Villefranche is enough to get an appetite going. When you get to the top of the main road above the beach, look out for a small path straight down to the train station and the beach road. Otherwise you will have to walk all the way round the top of the village. Mougins - Hilltop village with panoramic views. Pleasant enough but there's not a huge amount there other than small art galleries and a few well regarded (and therefore expensive) restaurants. The website is quite good. St. Paul de Vence - another hilltop village, a little like a miniature Mont St. Michel but without the water. Very nice little place, lots of art on show - some brilliant art, but some of it may appeal to more individual tastes. If you are eating there, try the restaurants just outside the walls. One has a great view down to Antibes and serves fantastic Gambas. Just add sunshine and a pichet du vin rose - it's the only way to live. |
